Frederick Carl Frieseke (1874–1939)
Frederick Carl Frieseke was a celebrated American Impressionist painter renowned for his luminous depictions of women, gardens, and sun-drenched interiors. Living and working in France, Frieseke became a key figure in the Giverny art colony, drawing inspiration from both French Impressionism and American sensibility. His signature works often feature serene figures—many modeled by his wife—in floral settings or peaceful domestic scenes, infused with patterned fabrics and dappled light. A member of The Ten American Painters, Frieseke played a central role in shaping the direction of early 20th-century American art, blending decorative harmony with a modern approach to color and form.
