Julian Alden Weir (1852–1919)
Julian Alden Weir was an influential American painter and a prominent figure in the American Impressionist movement. Trained at the National Academy of Design and later in Paris at the École des Beaux-Arts, Weir combined academic technique with the loose, light-filled brushwork of Impressionism. He was a founding member of the Ten American Painters, a group dedicated to promoting Impressionism in the United States. Known for his portraits, landscapes, and genre scenes, Weir’s work captures quiet moments of everyday life with sensitivity and grace, blending realism with an impressionistic touch.
